That caused famous artist Mary Englebreit to remark recently that the Internet is a great source of digital scrapbooking images that will yield virtually anything you might need. And she’s an authority on good images; products with her illustrations on them fly off the shelves as soon as they’re released!

Here are some of the types of free scrapbooking images available:

Vintage
There seems to be an rise in the number of people looking for antique scrapbook materials. Maybe that’s because vintage art is so timeless and doesn’t date the final product to any particular modern era. Antique cards make wonderful vintage scrapbooking embellishments, as does antique clip art. And if you’re fortunate enough to find vintage designs on digital scrapbook papers, you’ll experience digital meeting traditional in a beautiful and useful way. Antique art also covers a range of subjects, which means you can find images as diverse as Victorian fashion illustrations, magic show posters, vintage flowers, vintage cat clip art and vintage airline posters. So whatever the topic of your scrapbook, there’s probably antique art to match.

Holidays
Holidays just naturally invite the creation of scrapbooks, since those are the occasions when many of us create some of our most lasting memories. And Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Valentine’s Day aren’t the only holidays that make people want to create scrapbooks; many people are interested in the minor holidays too. There are all kinds of patriotic scrapbooking papers and embellishments on the Internet for holidays such as Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Fourth of July and Flag Day. There are also many images out there for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Earth Day and any other holiday you can think of; even the off-beat and downright bizarre ones.

Flowers and Butterflies
People who scrapbook seem to love flowers of all kinds, and who can blame them? They work for nearly any occasion. Butterflies, too, have a large audience, because they bring to mind so many things we love: freedom, summertime and other happy things. Butterfly and flower images are also diverse, because you can find them in both illustration and photographic form, and in modern and vintage forms. There are even butterfly scrapbooking papers that have coordinating modern and vintage designs available in the same collections.

Wedding Images
Weddings and scrapbooks were made to go together, because couples usually have at least one photo wedding album. But if you can make it a wedding scrapbook instead, you can preserve your memories in an even more creative way. There is a surprisingly good selection of wedding scrapbook images on the Internet that will allow you to create a lasting memento for little or no cost. And if for some reason you don’t find any specifically for weddings that appeal to you, flower scrapbook images will often do just as well.

Baby
As is the case with wedding ceremonies, the birth and growth years of a baby often generate a lot of pictures. And what scrapbooker wouldn’t want to pass down a distinctive baby scrapbook to her child as he or she gets older? Fortunately, you can find a huge selection of scrapbooking materials for babies. If you haven’t looked at baby images for a while, though, you might find the color schemes a little surprising these days. Burnt orange, chocolate brown and red are all the rage, as well as a few specific shades of green. Of course, you can still find lots of blue and pink, but these days there are many bold color choices too.

So the next time you go looking for scrapbooking materials, check out what’s available online. You might find some amazing free things.
